My therapeutic approach and therapeutic style
I draw from mindfulness, meditation, somatic approaches, polyvagal theory, self-compassion, as well as CBT, DBT, and ACT. I am also an attachment-based therapist and believe that our earliest experiences with caregivers and family shape our emotional needs, our communication patterns, and the way we engage in adult relationships.
For those new to therapy and for whom these terms are jargony and intimidating, I get it. What’s important is not so much any one technique or specific therapy, but rather, the quality and strength of our therapeutic relationship.
I am empathic, and an attuned and sensitive listener. I tend to be gentle and unassuming in nature. However, for those who prefer a more direct, assertive approach, I can also work in this style as well. Some people prefer a more open-ended, process-based approach to therapy, whereas others may do better with structure, activities, exercises, etc. I offer both, based on your needs. If you do not know which kind of approach is best for you, we can discuss this together. You may need different approaches at different times!
